Black Walnut Butcher Block

We are currently gluing "Black Walnut Countertops" at our Bally, PA. facility.

American Black Walnut Butcher Block

American Black Walnut is a relative newcomer to our stable of products. Over the last 3 years we have been listening to our customers and what we heard was that there was a need for a reasonably priced "Walnut Countertop" or "Walnut Island Top". We felt we could fill the demands of the market and earlier this year we started gluing Black Walnut.

These tops and a wonderful addition to the line since they offer deep rich tone which fills out the color palette nicely. Walnut is characterized by large areas of deep brown highlighted beautifully by an occasional streak of lighted wood. We do recommend Black Walnut tops be finished in Durakryl 102.

Currently are not producing stock sizes of Black Walnut. Pricing should be obtained from your local distributor.

American Black Walnut Top

Many people are familiar with black walnut only as a stained wood. Few people realize in its natural form walnut has a wide range of color. For some people familiar with walnut this is one of the endearing qualities of the wood. This unique grain structure and color variation shows all of the character of the environment in which the tree lived. We post these pictures to show this variation. Please realize that if you choose walnut for a counter top you should expect some striking color variation.

Walnut Blutcher Block - Color

One option you have with black walnut is to request that we "sap stain" the top to reduce the color variation. This will tone down and even out the contrast of light wood to dark. This choice should be given careful consideration. Natural variations in the color of wood, especially walnut and cherry. are not considered a manufacturers defect. Additionally, we do not stain to match other items or samples. The purpose of sap staining is to reduce the natural color variations and should not be thought of as a traditional staining process. No choices of stains are available and the degree of staining is at the sole discretion of the Wood Welded Companies.
